I have always been fascinated by the fantastic movies. Mummies and vampires, time travelers and star warriors had been the heroes of my youth. During my school time I did afford the first film books and magazines to find out more facts about the making of, the filmmakers and other secrets about those movies. In the last years my focus has slightly changed. In the meantime I'm much more interested in film literature itself than the actual movies.

The fact that this area of collector's interests is rather unknown in Germany due to a missing distinct collector's scene as for instance in the United States it's even more interesting to compile fantastic film literature. Furthermore the golden age of German fanzines has been over for a long time and only a few publications did make it until today. Sometimes the archiving of rare fanzines can be more likely compared to the work of an archaeologist than to a collector.

I was able to retrieve information from my own manageable collection for my website Grauen II - The Return, the magazine Pulse (which has unfortunately only been a prototype), several articles for the magazine Pranke and the Pegasus Film Program. Finally the idea for Mad Mags came up: an archive to search for specific information on fantastic movie literature.

I hope you enjoy Mad Mags.

In 1986 issue # 0 of Germany's first modern fantastic movie fanzine Evil Ed had been released. There had been no prior publications except Manfred Knorr's Monster from the early 1960's. Within a short time I had the privilege to be one of its regular writers.

In 1987 Austria's first genre movie fanzine Dark Movies had been launched. This time I had been the editor. Since then I was able to work as an author and did provide film material to several national and foreign famous magazines/fanzines like Splatting Image, Doom, Creepy Images, Deadline, Gore Gothic, Gory News, X-Rated, 3rd Eye, Pranke, Morgengrauen, Spookie, Movie Star, Bad Taste, Bloody Screen News, Uncut, Crypt Keepers, Creepshow, The Goblin, Bloodfeast, Doctor Cyclops, Fantastic Screen, Fantastic Movie News, Gorezilla, Santo Street, Behind The Door, Suspiria, Horror Movie, Hell Fire, Home Made, Filmgalerie, Videooze, G-Fan, Book Of The Dead, Rosso Sangue and some other ones. Furthermore I did contribute a few articles for the brilliant Pegasus Filmprogramm series.

I also had been involved in working on books as Amicus Chronicles, Die Angst sitzt neben Dir, Bad Blood, Cannibal Movie Chronicle, Dark Stars, Ed Gein: A Quiet Man, Halloween Chronicles, Inferno Italia, Jess Franco Chronicles, Kino Killer, Der kommentierte Bildband zu «Ab 18», Mexican Horror Cinema or Monster Magazine & Fanzine Collector's Guide # 2.
