While most of the German fan publications in the 1980´s were restricting themselves to the splatter genre, the Austrian fanzine Dark Movies devoted their articles mainly to themes that were not covered by other publications. So the seven issues that were published featured full length articles about the movies by David Cronenberg, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Jack Arnold or the bloody deeds of the "Manson Family".

Editor Harald Dolezal was able to recruit some writers, who went on to write for such well known magazines as Splatting Image and Filmlogbuch. There is Christian Fuchs who had his articles in Dark Movies published under the alias «Christian Fetish». Today he is a professional film and music journalist and the singer in such bands as Fetish 69, Toxic Lounge and Bunny Lake. Furthermore he is the author of the book Kino Killer which was issued in Great Britain under the title Bad Blood. His articles on splatter maestro Lucio Fulci, which is offered here in form of a reprint, was published in 1987 in the third issue of Dark Movies and was Fuchs' first article for a magazine ever. Two additonal articles by Wolfgang Angst and Aldo Prina are dedicated to David Lynch and the japanese Godzilla Series respectively.
